From the artist:
This piece, partially open to interpretation, explores our long and complicated relationship with one of our most insidious devices, guns, as well as the way most of us are first introduced to them, via another device, a screen. I used the trope of the cowboy because it's one of the earliest known ways that guns were romanticized and shown as heroic. The large and small toy guns represent the disconnect between harmless toys and deadly ones, and the sprites are a visualization of how our minds have been, and still are, seduced by violence.
In this series, FLuX uses his signature technique of oil-painted Trompe Nouveau - a combination of Trompe L’oeil realism with Art Nouveau-inspired imagery - to explore our complex relationships with machines and devices throughout time.
